In Car Driving Notes

  1. Stop Signs (Full stop = 0 kms speed, For 3 seconds): Make full stop at all stop signs facing you.

    1. All way stop signs. (Mostly ALL WAY is written under the stop sign but not 100%.)

      1. Traffic from all directions will stop at this type of stop.
      2. Check Left-Right-Left(LRL) before proceeding
      3. Click on this video link to understand the right of way

    2. Regular (3-way, 2-way, 1 way): Must make full stop and check Left-Right-Left again and again until cross traffic is clear from both sides and then proceed.

      1. Three way (traffic on 3 sides will stop)
      2. Two way (traffic on 2 sides stops,cross traffic does not stop)
      3. One way (traffic on only one side stops)

  2. Stopping positions: The stopping position tells you where to stop.

    1. There are 3 stopping positions

      1. Solid white line
      2. Pedestrian crossing/ Cross walk
      3. Edge of the road

  3. Turning on Red Lights (Only Right turn is allowed) (and left turn from one-way-to-one-way street only).

    1. Treat Red Light like stop sign.

      1. Come to complete STOP like you do on a stop sign
      2. Check Left and Right for pedestrians/ bikes/ e-scooters….
      3. if crosswalk is clear, roll up (crawl) your car very slow by watching your left side initially, until your view is clear on left side about 150-200 meters from the intersection, and then check right, check left again, and if left side traffic is clear, check right again, if clear then proceed to right most lane of the road and speed upto posted speed limit, continue.

  4. Turning on Green Lights

    1. Right Turn:

      1. Slow down before entering to turning zone DO NOT STOP
      2. Watch for Pedestrians/bikes/scooters on right side
      3. If no Pedestrians/bikes/scooters are present or crossing the road on right side then move on and make right turn safely

    2. Left Turn:

        There are 3 types of left turn signals

      1. Yield on green light

        As soon as green light turns on, you should slowly crawl your vehicle into intersection and stop in the middle of the intersection then keep watching following:

        • On coming vehicles from front (all lanes)
        • Pedestrians/bikes/scooters on the left side parallel to you
        • Traffic lights: if it turns yellow, then focus on the oncoming traffic in all lanes opposite to you and make sure all the vehicles have slowed down and will stop, then quickly complete your turn.
      2. Green Arrow and then Yield on green light

        If green arrow turns on, it is your right of way and complete the turn quickly but if as soon as green arrow turns to yellow, you should slow down, enter into intersection and stop in the middle of the intersection and keep watching following:

        • On coming vehicles from front (all lanes)
        • Pedestrians/bikes/scooters on the left side parallel to you
        • Traffic lights: if it turns yellow, then focus on the oncoming traffic in all lanes opposite to you and make sure all the vehicles have slowed down and will stop, then quickly complete your turn.
      3. Green Arrow exclusive left turn signal

        You can make left turn only on green arrow on this signal, no yeilding

  5. Round Turns (2 Methods to perform round turns)

    1. 3 Point Turn

      1. Refer to the following picture for 3 point turn

    2. 2 Point Turn

      1. Refer to the following picture for 2 point turn. Follow the direction of arrows.

  6. Parking Types

    1. Head on / Forward Parking

    2. Parallel Parking

    3. Hill Parking (Uphill/Downhill)

      In G2 only with curb is performed

      Uphill: turn steegin wheel to left

      Downhill: turn steegin wheel to right

    4. Stall Parking

      Do not turn the steering wheel to either side, must be straight

    5. Reverse Parking

    NOTE: DO NOT TURN ON 4 WAY INDICATORS IN ANY PARKING TYPE

  7. Roadside Stop / Emergency Stop

    1. When you need to stop by the side of the road for a short period of time to check something outside your vehicle (example: flat tire ), or to look for directions on a map, follow these steps:

      1. Before slowing down, check Mirror==>Signal on==> check Blindspot, if safe then slow down and move your vehicle to right side on to the shoulder of the road.

  8. Lane Changes

    1. Check your Mirror, turn Signal on, Blindspot check by turning your neck, If safe then proceed to change the lane
